Why a separate exam
A contact lens sits on your eye
Glasses sit in front of your eyes, so a glasses prescription isn't enough for contacts. A contact lens exam adds measurements of the front of your eye so the lens fits its shape, and a check that your eyes stay healthy wearing lenses.
- Measurements for the right fit
- A lens recommendation for your eyes and your routine
- A check that your eyes stay healthy in contacts
Before your visit
- Bring the contacts you wear now, or their box, if you have them
- Bring your glasses too
- Have your insurance card handy
FAQ
Common questions
Is a contact lens exam different from a regular eye exam?
Yes. It adds the measurements and fitting that contact lenses need, on top of checking your vision and eye health.
Does insurance cover contact lenses?
Many vision plans cover part of a contact lens exam or lenses, but it depends on your plan. We'll check your benefits before your visit.
How often do I need a contact lens exam?
Contact lens prescriptions usually need to be renewed every year, so plan on a yearly exam.
Can I skip contacts during the day altogether?
For some people, yes. Ortho-K lenses are worn overnight so you can see clearly during the day without glasses or contacts.
